Betty Snyder, James Kraft, Louise P. O’Toole
Betty Snyder passed from this world on July 23, 2012. Born Elizabeth June Slagel to Elmer and Sarah Slagel on October 14, 1926, she was also known as “Curly Pete” to her brothers and sisters, who numbered 11. Born in St. Louis, MI, she also lived in St. Johns, Adrian and Lansing, MI. In her last years she lived in Goshen IN and Toledo OH where she died peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter, Carla Trevino.
Betty lived a full and rewarding life and created deep and meaningful relationships at every stop she called home. A sincerely religious and spiritual woman she radiated beauty and love within and without. She was also a quiet inspiration to all who knew her. A devoted couple, she and Stanley Snyder were married on June 18, 1944 and she felt that Stanley was her greatest blessing on earth. Stanley preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by their 4 children, Jake (Evie) Snyder, Carla Trevino, John (Rose) Snyder and Mary Snyder (Tom Wright); grandchildren, Shane (Pam) Snyder, Jason (Jessica) Snyder, Aaron (Amanda) Trevino, Sarah (Fred) Vallejo , Adam Trevino, Ben Snyder, Luke Snyder, Athalia Snyder and Dallas Wright and great grandchildren Isaiah, Haley, Quentin, Lily, Armando, Antonio, Augustine, Carmen, Chance and Mason. Betty is also survived by her siblings Anna Walker, Evelyn (Clayton) Sharick and Carol Hershberger. Along with her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris, Lucille, Fern, Ruby and brothers, Roger, Allen, Warren and Max.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. on July 26, 2012 at Bethel Mennonite Church, 9785 S. Bagley Rd. (US-127) Ashley, MI 48806 with Pastor Ed Heilman from Park Church in Toledo, OH, where Betty was a member, officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Twp. Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 4 – 7 P.M. Wednesday, July 25 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 East Cass Street, St. Johns, MI. Memorials may be given to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th Street, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
James R. Kraft, 80, of Chanhassen, Mn. and Venice passed away peacefully on July 17, 2012. He was a native of St. Johns, Michigan and spent his early years growing up in that home town. The son of Dr. Russell Kraft and Doris (Conley) Kraft, he was an active youth and enjoyed basketball during his high school years. After attending Olivet College in Olivet, MI he enlisted in the US Army serving in Germany as well as stateside during the Korean War.
After his Army service he migrated to Venice, Florida and met Linda Faye DeShazo. The couple were married in 1958 and had two daughters, Carol Marie and Nancy Linn and a son, Russell Charles.
Jim worked at the Breezeway Supermarket in Venice before joining the Green Giant Company in Minnesota. The family moved around in his sales work with Green Giant living in Ohio and New Jersey and finally serving as Military Products Sales Manager in the home office in Minnesota. He continued in that position when Green Giant Company was bought by Pillsbury Company in Minnesota. He retired from Pillsbury in 1987 and spent his retirement years as a Winter resident of Venice, FL and a Summer resident of Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Jim was a loving husband and father and fully involved with his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Nancy Kerian and son, Russell, ten Grandchildren and three Great-grandchildren. Jim also has a sister, Mrs. William Millman of Venice and a brother, Robert Kraft of Dallas, TX. Daughter Carol preceded him in death.
Jim will be remembered fondly by family and friends for his sense of humor and always having a joke handy for any occasion as well as his organization skills and his positive attitude toward life.
The National Cremation Society of Sarasota is in charge of arrangements. A service for family and friends will be held at the Baptist Church in Venice on Saturday, 21 July. A burial service will follow at the Veterans National Cemetery in Sarasota in the near future.
Louise P. O’Toole
Louise P. O’Toole, died on July 19, 2012 at the age of 77. She was born on September 23, 1934, in Ovid, the daughter of James and Mary (Roddy) O’Toole. Louise collected cat figurines, played bingo, enjoyed her pet birds and loved her nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Owosso.
Surviving her are sister, Geraldine Chanler of Oregon; brother-in-law William Kuykendall of Arkansas and her nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Mary Gene Rivest, Rose Kuykendall and Catherine O’Toole.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 111 N. Howell St., Owosso, with Fr. Michael O’Brien presiding, burial to follow at St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid. There will be a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made in Louise’s name to Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility-Activities Fund. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
